Auth, DeFuccio supports De Gregorio for Conrgess

Two Bergen County lawmakers have endorsed Nick De Gregorio for the Republican congressional nomination to face Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) in New Jersey’s 5th District.

Congressman Bob Auth (R-Old Tappan) and Congresswoman DeAnne DeFuccio (R-Upper Saddle River) became the first elected officials to support De Gregorio, a US Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Nick is our choice to represent us in Congress because we know he will use the same strength and determination he did while honorably serving his country overseas to fight for the fifth district in Congress,” Auth and DeFuccio said.

De Gregorio faces two opponents in the GOP primary: businessman Fred Schneiderman and investment banker Frank Pallotta. Schneiderman hired two high-level advisers to former President Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway and Larry Weitzner.

“Washington is leaderless and broken. Politicians like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and their enabler Josh Gottheimer have only made life harder and more unaffordable for families here in New Jersey,” the two 39th District Republicans said. “Inflation – thanks to the socialist spending sprees supported by Josh – is spiraling out of control and press releases and letters will no longer suffice.”

Auth and DeFuccio said Congress needs “someone with a backbone to stand up and finally say no for all of us.”

De Gregorio raised $403,000 for his race against Gottheimer, the human fundraising machine, and ended 2021 with $360,000 in cash.

Pallotta has yet to file its fourth-quarter fundraising report, and Schneiderman only entered the race this month.
